Uttarakhand glacier disaster: IAF resumes rescue operations

New Delhi (NVI): The Indian Air Force today resumed relief and rescue operations from early morning today while carrying out sorties with Mi 17, ALH and Chinook aircraft to assess the damage caused by massive flooding in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, following a glacier outburst.

“Starting from 0645 hrs today morning, 6 Mi 17 sorties, 1 ALH sortie and 01 Chinook sortie have been carried out till now,” the Indian Air Force said in a statement.

The IAG said that transportation of the required load from Dehradun to Joshimath — including 122 personnel, around 5 tonnes of load and 6 rescue canines– has been completed.

An ALH was tasked for the reconnaissance of the affected area by 6 scientists of DRDO along with their specialised equipment, it said.

Further requirements are being coordinated with relevant authorities, the IAF said in a statement.
