Coronavirus cases surpass 107.3 mn globally, total recoveries near 60 mn

New Delhi (NVI): More than 107.3 million people around the world have been confirmed to have the coronavirus, while the death toll has crossed 2,353,000, according to the Johns Hopkins University tally. Over 59.9 million patients have recovered from the deadly disease globally.

The number of coronavirus infections in the US have surpassed 27.2 million, while the number of fatalities caused due to the deadly contagion have exceeded 4,71,000 in the country.

Brazil’s coronavirus cases have crossed the 9.6 million-mark and stands at 9,659,167 while the number of deaths have surged past 2,34,500.

Furthermore, China has reported two covid cases, the fewest number of new Covid cases in more than five months, official data showed on Thursday, after a combination of robust countermeasures helped stamp out a new wave of the disease in the northeast that emerged last month.

Mexico’s health ministry reported 1,328 new confirmed deaths from Covid-19, bringing the total to 169,760.

Meanwhile, Italy is reopening its ski resorts in Lombardy, the region worst hit by the coronavirus. Lifts will resume operating from February 15, which will mark the return of skiing for the first time this year.

Germany is now expected to extend its lockdown until March 7, but hairdressers may be allowed to open before the date.

The World Health Organization (WHO) says that the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine can be given to adults of all ages, after some countries decided not to give the dose to those aged over 65 over doubts about its effectiveness.
