New Delhi (NVI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi today handed over indigenously designed, developed and manufactured Arjun Main Battle Tank (Mark 1A) tanks to the Indian Army.
PM Modi handed over the ‘Made-in-India’ battle tank to Army Chief Gen MM Naravane at an event in Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, Chennai.
“I’m proud to handover the indigenously designed and manufactured main battletank Arjun Mark 1A. Tamil Nadu is already the leading automobile manufacturing hub of India. Now, I see Tamil Nadu evolving as the tank manufacturing hub of India,” PM Modi said while addressing a gathering here.
Both the PM and Army Chief also interacted with the crew of MBT Arjun.
PM Modi also accepted a salute by the state-of-the-art tank. The tank is indigenously designed, developed, and manufactured by the Defence Research and Development Organisation’s (DRDO) Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment in Chennai.
On the occasion, the PM also launched a 9-km-long stretch of the Chennai Metro Rail, along with two other railway projects and laid the foundation stone of Discovery Campus of IIT, Madras that is expected to cost ₹ 1,000 crore.
