New Delhi (NVI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched a slew of projects across sectors of logistics, health infrastructure, heritage and pilgrim tourism.

During his visit, PM Modi said, “I am here to personally assure all possible support from my Government for the development of Puducherry.”

He said, “Puducherry, a beautiful land with rich talent pool had potential for a lot of industrial and tourism development that will provide a lot of employment and opportunity.”

He inaugurated a Blood Centre at state-run JIPMER, a Sports Authority of India (SAI) girls hostel at Lawspet and a reconstructed Heritage Mairie building.

Furthermore, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the four-laning of Sattanathapuram-Nagapattinam National Highway section, Medical College Building at Karaikal New Campus of JIPMER-Phase I and the development of Minor Port at Puducherry under Sagarmala scheme.

He also laid the foundation stone of Synthetic Athletic Track, Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in the Union Territory.

Underscoring India’s requirement for world class infrastructure to cater to its development needs, the Prime Minister, who laid the foundation stone for the Rs. 2,426 crore four-laning of NH 45-A , said the 56 km Sattnathapuram–Nagapattinam stretch covering Karaikal district would improve connectivity and spur economic activity.

After laying the foundation stone for the Puducherry Port Development under Sagarmala scheme, he said once completed, it would help fishermen who have been using this port for venturing into sea for fishing operations as well as provide much needed sea connectivity to Chennai.

“This will facilitate the cargo movement for industries of Puducherry and ease load on Chennai port. It will open up possibilities of passenger traffic among the coastal cities,” Modi said.

Hailing Puducherry as “holy land” whose divinity had brought him back again after a visit three years ago, Modi said, “Puducherry has a presence on India’s western and eastern coast. This land is a symbol of diversity. People speak five different languages, practice different faiths but live as one”.
