53,476 fresh Covid cases take India’s tally past 1.17 crore

New Delhi (NVI): With 53,476 new coronavirus infections being reported in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day rise in over five months, the overall tally has climbed to 11,787,534, the Union Health Ministry confirmed today.

India has recorded more than 50,000 positive cases for the first time this year. The country recorded 47,262 fresh Covid cases on Wednesday and 40,715 cases on Tuesday.

The death count climbed to 1,60,692 with the novel coronavirus virus claiming 251 lives during this period, the data showed.

Currently, more than 1.12 crore patients have been cured and recovered across the country and the total number of recoveries stands at 11,231,650.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 active caseload increased to 3,95,192 with an increase of 26,735 cases in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra has reported 31,855 new cases since yesterday. Furthermore, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have also been showing a worrying surge in Covid cases.

With this, Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state with 25,64,881 COVID-19 cases followed by Kerala with 11,09,908 and Karnataka with 9,75,955 positive cases.

The other worst hit states are Andhra Pradesh (8,95,121), Tamil Nadu (8,71,440), Delhi (6,51,227) and Uttar Pradesh (6,09,443).
