India records 2,34,692 fresh Covid-19 cases in highest-ever daily spike

New Delhi (NVI): India reported 2,34,692 coronavirus cases today, the highest single-day spike so far since the pandemic broke out, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. As many as 1,341 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours.

The single-day spike comes a day after 217,353 Covid-19 cases were recorded on Friday.

Maharashtra and Delhi saw the highest-ever surge in infections in the last 24 hours. With 63,729 new infections, Maharashtra’s caseload is past the 37-lakh mark now. Delhi has recorded over 8 lakh cases since the start of the pandemic; 19,486 cases were recorded in the last 24 hours.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed in a tweet that the mega Kumbh Mela should ‘now only be symbolic’. Gathering of thousands of pilgrims and fears of violation of Covid protocols at Kumbh has sparked nationwide concern.
