New Delhi (NVI) India strongly condemned today the “barbarous” terror attack on a girls’ school in Kabul yesterday in which 50 innocent students were killed and said the incident again highlights the urgent need for dismantling terrorist sanctuaries, in an apparent reference to Pakistan.
External Affairs Ministry termed the bomb blast as an attack on the future of Afghanistan.
“We strongly condemn the terrorist attack on Sayed al-Shuhada Girls school in Kabul yesterday, which killed more than 50 innocent girl students during the holy month of Ramadan. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the young girls who lost their lives in this barbarous attack,” External Affairs Ministry said in a statement.
“Targeting young girl students, makes this an attack on the future of Afghanistan. The perpetrators clearly seek to destroy the painstaking and hard-won achievements that the Afghans have put in place over the last two decades,” it said.
“This incident demonstrates, once again, the urgent need for dismantling terrorist sanctuaries and the immediate need for a comprehensive nation-wide ceasefire to make the peace process meaningful and sustainable,” the ministry said.
It added that India has always supported the education of Afghan youth and remains committed to the progress and development of Afghanistan.
Afghanistan has recently been witnessing increased violence and attacks by the Taliban extremist group, coinciding with the start of the exit of all American troops from Afghanistan.
The US troops would be leaving Afghanistan by September 11, almost 20 years after they came to the country to eliminate Al Qaeda and Taliban.
