New Delhi: At least three people were killed and 21 injured in a bomb blast that occurred near the Lahore residence of Hafiz Saeed, the chief of Jamaat-u-Daawa and mastermind of Mumbai terror attacks of November 2008.
Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Inam Ghani confirmed the media that the blast took place near the residence of proscribed Jamatud Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed, the Dawn reported.
“Police were guarding Saeed’s house at the time of the attack, resulting in serious injuries to some officials,” he said.
According to officials, “All injured have been shifted to Jinnah Hospital, among thirteen of them eight had been discharged.”
Television footage showed visible damage to nearby houses with cracked walls and shattered windows. A few buildings at the site of the incident were also damaged in the blast.
An eyewitness told Geo News that an unidentified individual parked a motorcycle near the house which later exploded.
Meanwhile, the police have cordoned off the area for further investigation.
“The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has taken over [the investigation]. The CTD will determine whether it was a suicide blast or if a device was used,” Ghani told Pakistan media.
“These attacks are usually carried out by countries that want to harm Pakistan and its progress,” he said.
