Extremely heavy rains likely over many parts of India

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted extremely heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning over several parts of India today.

“Heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls at isolated places very likely over Konkan & Goa and Telangana, ” the IMD said.

“Heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Coastal & South Interior Karnataka and Kerala & Mahe, ” it said in its daily weather bulletin.

Heavy rainfall at isolated places over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit Baltistan & the Muzaffarabad, Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Vidarbha, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Odisha, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Marathwada, North Interior Karnataka and TamilNadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, it said.

According to IMD, “Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning & gusty winds (30-40 kmph) very likely at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.”

“With lightning at isolated places over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Telangana, Rayalaseema and Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, it said.

Squally Weather (speed 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph) very likely over Westcentral & Southwest Arabian Sea; Southeast, Eastcentral & Northeast Arabian Sea, along with & off Gujarat-Maharashtra-Goa-Karnataka-Kerala coasts, Lakshadweep area, Westcentral & South Bay of Bengal along & off Tamil Nadu & South Andhra Pradesh coasts and Gulf of Mannar.

The IMD further advised fishermen not to venture into these areas.
