Delhi, Maharashtra would continue to witness heavy rain today

New Delhi: Extremely heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning would continue to occur over several parts of India including Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and other states, the IMD said today.

“Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy falls at isolated places very likely over Konkan, Goa, Uttarakhand, West Uttar Pradesh, Ghat Areas of Madhya Maharashtra and Coastal & South Interior Karnataka,” the IMD said in its daily weather bulletin.

“Heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, East Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, South Gujarat Region, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and North Interior Karnataka,” it said.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), “Heavy rainfall expected at isolated places over East Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Marathwada, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema, Kerala & Mahe and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal. Moderate to heavy rainfall very likely over Chandigarh & Delhi.”

It has also predicted, “Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning & gusty winds (30-40 kmph) at isolated places over Kerala & Mahe and with lightning at isolated
places over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit Baltistan & Muzaffarabad.

“Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal & Sikkim, Odisha, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Telangana, Rayalaseema and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal would also witness lightning today,” the IMD said.

Strong winds (speed 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph) very likely over North Arabian Sea and along & off Gujarat-Maharashtra-Goa coasts; Southeast Arabian Sea and along & off Karnataka-Kerala coasts & Lakshadweep area.

South Bay of Bengal & south Andaman Sea and along & off south Tamil Nadu coast.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas, the IMD said.
