New Delhi: No deliverable outcome was reported from the marathon 14th round of India-China Corps Commander Level Meeting that was aimed at resolving issues related to Chinese military aggression in the Eastern Ladakh sector.
A Joint Press Statement issued a little while back said, “The two sides agreed to stay in close contact and maintain dialogue via military and diplomatic channels and work out a mutually acceptable resolution of the remaining issues at the earliest.”
The 13-hour- long talks were held at Chushul-Moldo border meeting point on the Chinese side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) yesterday.
Representatives from the defense and foreign affairs establishments of the two sides were present at the meeting.
At the meeting, the Indian side pushed for early disengagement and demilitarisation in the areas like Depsang and Hot Spring where eyeball-to-eyeball situation persists because of aggression by the Chinese Army.
The PLA launched the aggression in various areas of the Eastern Ladakh sector in May 2020 with an aim of unilaterally altering the LAC.
Since then, disengagement has been carried out in Pangong Lake and Gogra Hill areas in 2 phases.
“The two sides had a frank and in-depth exchange of views for the resolution of the relevant issues along the LAC in the Western Sector,” the Joint Statement said about yesterday’s meeting.
“They agreed that both sides should follow the guidance provided by the State Leaders and work for the resolution of the remaining issues at the earliest,” it said.
It was noted that this would help in restoration of peace and tranquility along the LAC in the Western Sector and enable progress in bilateral relations, the statement added.
“The two sides also agreed to consolidate on the previous outcomes and take effective efforts to maintain the security and stability on the ground in the Western Sector including during winter,” it said.
It was also agreed that the next round of the Commanders’ talks should be held at the earliest, the statement concluded.
