Srinagar: Security forces delivered a strong blow to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism in Kashmir by killing 5 terrorists, including a so-called ‘commander’, in two operations overnight.
Four terrorists were killed in a gunfight in Pulwama district while one was eliminated in encounter in Budgam district, the police said.
The slain terrorists belonged to Pakistan-based terror outfits Laskhar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and included a Pakistani national, the police said.
Last evening, an encounter started in Naira area of Pulwama when security forces were laying a cordon following inputs about presence of terrorists in a residential house.
Hours later, another gunfight started in Charar-i-Sharief area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district .
Both the encounters went on for hours and resulted in elimination of 5 terrorists.
“05 #terrorists of #Pakistan sponsored proscribed #terror outfits LeT & JeM killed in dual #encounters in last 12 hours. JeM commander terrorist Zahid Wani & a Pakistani terrorist among the killed. Big #success for us,” IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar tweeted this morning.
The two encounters in Kashmir took place hours after a police head constable was shot dead by terrorists in Anantnag district.
