Pakistan-supported terrorist killed in Kashmir

Srinagar: A terrorist belonging to Pakistan-supported Hizbul Mujahideen outfit was killed in an encounter with security forces in Kashmir today, a day after he shot and injured a police officer, according to officials.

Umar Ishfaq Malik alias Musa was killed in the gunfight with security forces in Nadigam village of Shopian district of south Kashmir, police said.

The encounter began after a joint team of security forces came under fire while carrying out a cordon and search operation, police said.

“During the search operation, as the joint search party proceeded towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorist fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter. In the ensuing encounter, one terrorist was killed,” a police spokesman said.

“The killed terrorist was a categorized terrorist and was active since 2020,” the spokesman said.

He said Malik was involved in several terror crimes, including yesterday’s attack on ASI Shabir Ahmad at Amishijipora in Shopian while he was returning from nearby mosque after offering prayers.

The killed terrorist was also instrumental in motivating the youth to join terrorism, he said.

He was also providing logistic and other support to the active terrorists in the area before joining the terror ranks, the spokesman added.

Arms & ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter.
