Srinagar: Two Army men today lost their lives in terror firing following criminal cheating by a house owner who was hiding a terrorist who was subsequently killed.

The incident occurred in Chermarg Zainpora village of Shopian district.

Based on input about terrorist presence in the village, security forces this morning launched a search operation.

When the security forces zeroed down on a particular house, its owner Gowhar Ahmed Bhat lied and misled them, police said.

Bhat engaged the forces in conversation and in the meanwhile, the terrorist hiding in the house opened fire on the forces, causing critical injuries to two soldiers, police said.

“Later on both injured soldiers got martyrdom,” a police statement said.

The fallen soldiers were identified as Sepoys Santosh Yadav and Chavan Romit Tanaji of 1 Rashtriya Rifles.

“In the retaliatory action, one terrorist of LeT Abdul Qayoom Dar of Laroo Kakpora Pulwama was neutralised and arms and ammunitions including one AK rifle and a pistol were recovered,” the police statement said.

Qayoom Dar was associated with terrorism for last two years.
