New Delhi (NVI): In a noble outreach to society, Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) is not only humanely connecting with schoolchildren and elders from bordering villages of Ladakh, but is also taking them places “to win (their) hearts and minds”.
Taking this drive forward, the force, under the Civic Action Programme (CAP), today facilitated a meeting of a 48 member group from the remote villages with President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan here.
The 48 member excursion group from 10 villages, which include 36 students and 2 teachers, are on a 10-day tour from November 13 to 22, an official statement said.
The group visited various historical and important places in the National Capital. They will visit historical places of Jodhpur in Rajasthan from tomorrow.
Interacting with the group, the President congratulated and wished them a bright future. DG ITBP, S S Deswal meanwhile deliberated upon various civic action and border area development programmes being organised by the ITBP and briefed them about the present excursion tour of the schoolchildren on the occasion.
During the year 2019-20, the force has planned 20 such excursion tours in which a total of 860 schoolchildren and villages will be benefited.
Apart from schoolchildren, elderly inhabitants including senior citizens of the border population were also part of the tour.
With such initiatives, the force has been eyeing to organise more programmes to win hearts and minds of the remote population and to provide them an opportunity to experience the rich social, cultural and historical heritage of the nation.
ITBP is deployed primarily on extreme terrains of the high altitude Himalayan frontiers and best known for professional mountaineering skills and duties in minus temperatures.
