New Delhi: To further strengthen social and cultural ties with Nepal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid day-long visit to Lumbini in the neighbouring country, birth place of Gautam Buddha on Guru Purnima day.
During the visit, he also held talks with Nepalese counterpart on a range of issues.
“Today’s meeting with PM @SherBDeuba was excellent. We discussed the full range of relations between India and Nepal. Key MoUs were signed which will diversify and deepen cooperation, ” Prime Minister said in a tweet.
Earlier in the day, Narendra Modi addressed a gathering to mark the 2566th Buddha Jayanti Celebration at International Convention Center and Meditation Hall there.
“Buddha is the embodiment of the collective understanding of humanity. Buddha is enlightenment, as well as research; Buddha is thoughts, and sacraments too, ” he said. .
Narendra Modi was accompanied by Prime Minister of Nepal Sher Bahadur Deuba, and his spouse Arzu Rana Deuba.
The construction of the Lumbini Museum in Nepal is an example of joint cooperation between the two countries, Narendra Modi said.
Today we also decided to establish Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Chair for Buddhist Studies in Lumbini Buddhist University, Prime Minister added.
