SRINAGAR: In a major respite from the restrictions imposed in Jammu and Kashmir following scrapping of its special status, rail services fully resumed in the Valley today, over three months after remaining suspended due to security reasons.

After two successful trial runs on Srinagar-Banihal railway line on Saturday, a regular train ran from Srinagar to Banihal through the restive south Kashmir today, reports quoting officials said.

Earlier, the trial runs were conducted after a thorough safety audit of the section.

Train services in the Valley were suspended on August 3, ahead of the Centre’s decision to abrogate the special status granted to the erstwhile of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the Constitution and bifurcate it in two union territories.

The train services had partially resumed on Srinagar-Baramulla stretch on Tuesday.

The resumption of train services in the Valley comes in continuation to lifting of several restrictions in the new Union Territory in the recent past to bring life in J&K back to normal.
