Srinagar: Two terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces on the outskirts of Srinagar this evening, police said.
The encounter in Nowgam area took place after security forces laid a cordon in a locality on the basis of specific input generated by the police about presence of terrorists there, it said.
“On a specific input generated by Police, an encounter has started in Nowgam area of Srinagar District. Srinagar Police and 50RR are on the job,” the police said in a tweet.

Following it up with another tweet some time later, the police said, “1 terrorist killed. Operation in progress.”
About 30 minutes later, the police tweeted: “SrinagarEncounterUpdate: 01 more #terrorist killed (Total 02). Identification being ascertained. #Search going on. Further details shall follow.”
