Srinagar: The Army, with the collaboration of Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP), today foiled an infiltration attempt by a terrorist in Kupwara district of Kashmir by killing the intruder.

The terrorist was trying to sneak into Indian side of Kashmir from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

“Based on specific input of JKP and further corroborated by other intelligence agencies, a Joint ops was launched in general area of Jumagund, Kupwara by Indian Army and JKP,” Srinagar-based Defence spokesman said here.

At around 10.25 AM today, a terrorist was seen trying to infiltrate onto this side of Line of Control (LoC), taking advantage of bad weather and visibility conditions, he said while giving details.

The alert troops kept the terrorist under strict surveillance and when he reached closer to the ambush party, he was challenged, the spokesman said.

Sensing danger, the terrorist fired on the party and tried to flee, he said, adding the intruder was, however, neutralized in the effective firing on him.

A search of the area resulted in recovery of an AK series rifle and other war like stores, the spokesman said.
