Srinagar: Security forces achieved a major success today as they eliminated 4 terrorists, including a Pakistani, in 2 separate encounters in South Kashmir and averted terror strikes.
The near-simultaneous encounters took place in the evening in Anantnag and Pulwama districts.
In the gunfight in Awantipora in Pulwama, 3 terrorists were killed, police said tonight.
“As per our source, 1 is FT (foreign terrorist) & 1 local terrorist of LeT namely Mukhtiyar Bhat, involved in several terror crimes including killing of 01 ASI of CRPF & 2 RPF personnel. A big success for us,” Kashmir Zone police tweeted quoting ADGP Vijay Kumar.
In a subsequent tweet, Kumar said Bhat was an LeT commander, who along with the foreign terrorist was “going for fidayeen attack on SFs (security forces’) camp.”
An AK-74 rifle, 01 AK-56 rifle & 1 pistol were recovered.
“Awantipora Police & Army averted a major terror incident,” the ADGP (Kashmir) said.
Another encounter took place in Semthan village of Bijbehara in Anantnag in which one terrorist was killed.
The police also averted a possible terror attack as it arrested 3 terrorists and recovered from them a 10-kg IED planted in a bucket & 2 hand grenades.
