New Delhi (NVI): MoS PMO Dr Jitendra Singh yesterday said that the newly formed Union territory of Ladakh has already started on the path of development as the government has announced Rs. 50,000 crore to support the Power Projects and Winter-Grade diesel fuel.
Singh described this “As the beginning of a new era of the fast development of Ladakh,” an official statement said.
The Minister yesterday had a meeting with Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh R K Mathur to discuss recent developments in Ladakh.
During the meeting, Singh shared details of discussions which he held with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) to set up fruit processing units for “Leh Berry” in Ladakh and “Garo Berry” for Meghalaya, stating, “It would provide a huge source of local livelihood for the people of Ladakh in the same manner as has been accomplished in North East.”
Singh informed Mathur about the special priority focus to be given to Ladakh on the directions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He referred to PM’s emphasis on the development of the region during his visit to Ladakh early this year and also mentioned a number of projects launched by him during that visit.
He also emphasised the need to explore Ladakh’s potential for production of Solar Energy which could be a boon for the entire country.
“Last year he had taken up the issue with the Aviation Ministry for increasing air connectivity within the region and also the regulation of the airfare for the local residents,” he said. Adding that under the UDAAN scheme, an airport for Kargil was approved along with an airport for Kishtwar.
