Peshawar: Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) tonight said 2 Pakistani security personnel have been killed and dozens injured in over 30-hour fight in Mohamand Agency of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during which the outfit lost 3 members.
The gunfight began yesterday afternoon when Pakistan’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and Secret Service personnel raided a hideout of Malikar Mujahideen in Gambtai area of Mohmand Agency in Peshawar district, it said.
The government forces met strong resistance, after which hundreds more personnel were called by them, TTP spokesman Muhammad Khurasani said in a statement.
“At least two CTD officers were killed and dozens were injured in this battle that lasted for more than thirty hours,” he said.
A Kalashnikov rifle was also captured from the government forces, Khurasani said.
He said the Mujahideen prolonged the gunfight as they fought strongly, thus writing “a story of bravery”.
Three Mujahideen were killed while all others reached safe places, the spokesman said, contradicting military spokesman who claimed earlier that some TTP members had been arrested.
“The infamous CTD failed to arrest anyone and finally left the Mujahideen’s shelter cave with earth with an excavator machine, creating a shameful history once again,” Khurasani said.
He was referring to visuals circulated by the Pakistan army showing excavator machines digging soil at a cave which was claimed to be hiding place for the TTP members.
