Srinagar, Aug 15 (NVI):- Mohammad Maqbool, a skilled artisan from Bandipora, has made headlines with his unique expression of patriotism. The craftsman painstakingly hand-wove the Indian tricolor on a mat, which he proudly displayed in front of the historic Clock Tower (Ghanta Ghar) in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk today.
Maqbool, known for his expertise in traditional Kashmiri handicrafts, took the opportunity to highlight the importance of preserving these age-old arts.
He expressed his deep concern over the declining state of the handicraft industry in Jammu and Kashmir, urging the government to take proactive measures to revive this crucial aspect of the region’s cultural heritage.
“Handicrafts are the soul of Kashmir, and they have been the backbone of our economy for centuries. However, with the advent of modern machinery and a lack of government support, many artisans are abandoning this craft. It is essential for the government to recognize the value of our traditional arts and provide the necessary support to keep them alive,” Maqbool stated.
Maqbool’s handcrafted flag, which took several months of meticulous work to complete, is not only a symbol of national pride but also a reminder of the skill and dedication of Kashmiri artisans. His act of displaying the flag at such an iconic location underscores his commitment to both his craft and his country.
His work has garnered attention from locals and tourists alike, with many praising the artisan for his innovative way of celebrating Independence Day.
As the region celebrated the 77th Independence Day, Maqbool’s creation served as a poignant reminder of the rich cultural heritage that defines Kashmir, urging both the local community and the government to take action before these traditional crafts are lost forever.(News Vibes of India)
