New Delhi (NVI): Amid the government’s renewed push to adopt the ambitious ‘Make in India’ initiative in defence sector, as many as 8,643 Micro, Small and Medium enterprises are presently operating in Indian defence industry.
In line with the recent observations of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Army chief General Bipin Rawat that Make in India should be promoted in Indian Defence industry, the government has come up with a series of schemes to boost domestic defence manufacturers.
Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Nitin Gadkari in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha informed that there were several schemes and initiatives of the government to support MSMEs including those in the defence production sector.
These include Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), Micro and Small Enterprises-Cluster Development Programme (MSE-CDP), Scheme for Promotion of MSMEs in North Eastern Region and Sikkim, Tool Rooms and Technology Centers, Mission Solar Charkha (MSC), Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries (SFURTI), Credit Guarantee Scheme for Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) and Credit Linked Capital Subsidy and Technology Upgradation Scheme (CLCS-TUS).
He said the Defence Ministry has also taken various measures to support domestic defence production across the country and they included Make-I and Make-II projects, Defence Investor Cell and Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX).
