New Delhi, Oct 21(NVI): The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced that the next meeting of the High-Powered Committee (HPC) for the Union Territory of Ladakh will be held on December 3 in New Delhi.
According to a document, the meeting will continue discussions in line with the Committee’s Terms of References (ToRs).
The HPC, initially constituted on January 2, 2023, under the chairmanship of Nityanand Rai, Minister of State for Home Affairs, was reconstituted on November 30, 2023, to further enhance its focus on issues related to Ladakh.
The meeting is expected to continue deliberations on key matters concerning the region. All concerned officials and stakeholders have been requested to attend the meeting as per the schedule.
Notably, the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) have been leading an agitation for the past five years, demanding statehood for Ladakh, its inclusion under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, an expedited recruitment process with a public service commission for the region, and separate Lok Sabha seats for Leh and Kargil districts.
Ladakh-based activist Sonam Wangchuk, along with over 100 other protesters, was detained on the northern border of Delhi on September 30 after completing their foot march from Ladakh to Delhi. (News Vibes of India)
