Srinagar, Nov 06 (NVI): Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather, on Wednesday, temporarily adjourned the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly for an hour as BJP legislators protested against a resolution to restore Article 370.
“The Speaker repeatedly requested the BJP lawmakers to take their seats to begin the discussion on the Lieutenant Governor’s address, but the members continued their protest.
All BJP legislators stayed in the Well of the House, declining to return to their seats despite the Speaker’s appeals. “Please return to your seats so we can proceed with discussions,” the Speaker urged, but the protests persisted, leading to the one-hour adjournment.
Pertainly, the resolution to restore Article 370 was earlier introduced by National Conference leader and Deputy Speaker Surinder Choudhary, passing with majority support.
Notably, the motion was backed by independent members Shabir Kullay and Sheikh Khursheed, three PDP legislators Waheedur Rehman Para, Mir Fayaz Ahmed, and Rafiq Ahmed, as well as Peoples Conference leader Sajad Lone. Congress legislators, however, opted to remain seated without casting votes.
It is worth mentioning, BJP leaders strongly condemned the resolution, accusing the National Conference of promoting what they described as anti-national and pro-Pakistan narratives within the Legislative Assembly.(News Vibes of India)
