Srinagar,Nov06(NVI): The third day of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly witnessed huge protests and sloganeering by the opposition over passing of the resolution for restoration of Article 370 by the National Conference.

At the start of the proceedings amidst disturbance, the assembly had passed the resolution on restoring the special status to the erstwhile State. Deputy CM Surinder Choudhary had moved the resolution on the restoration of special status guaranteed under Article 370 to J&K, which sparked sharp reactions from the opposition. The BJP legislators jumped into the well of the house raising slogans against the move and terming it as anti national and a Pakistani agenda.

When speaker Abdur Rahim Rather put the resolution to vote, it was passed with the majority of legislators supporting it.

Notably the resolution was also supported by non-coalition partners. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Engineer Rasheed’s Awami Ittehad Party (AIP), two Independent legislators Sheikh Khurshid and Shabir Kullay and J&K Peoples Conference chief Sajad Lone supported the resolution.

Earlier the speaker Abdur Rahim Rather, temporarily adjourned the assembly for one hour. The speaker repeatedly requested the BJP lawmakers to take their seats to begin the discussion on the Lieutenant Governor’s address, but the members continued their protest.

All 27 BJP legislators stayed in the well of the house, refusing to return to their seats despite the Speaker’s appeals. As the furore continued the speaker adjourned the house till tomorrow.  (News Vibes of India)
