Srinagar Acid attack survivor Ruqaya Jan shares her 12-Yr struggle, Triumph over tragedy

Srinagar, Nov 29(NVI): Ruqaya Jan, a survivor of a brutal acid attack today opened up about her long and painful journey of recovery over the past 12 years.

Speaking candidly before the press about the challenges she faced after the attack, Ruqaya expressed hope and courage, encouraging others who have faced similar traumatic experiences to never lose hope.

In 2013, Ruqaya’s life was turned upside down when a man threw an acid bottle at her, causing severe injuries to her face and body.

“The pain was huge and the emotional and physical scars were deep. Yet, despite the immense suffering, I refused to succumb,” she said. “I want to tell the people of Kashmir, especially those who have become victims of acid attacks, don’t lose hope. I have seen the worst in these 12 years, but today, I stand here in front of you, stronger than before.”

Ruqaya credited the exceptional care she received at Apollo Hospital for helping her regain her confidence. “The treatment I received at Apollo Hospital was nothing short of the best. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to Dr. Shaheen Norezan, the plastic surgeon who treated me with great kindness and professionalism,” she added, acknowledging the medical team that played a vital role in her recovery.

Her words resonated with countless individuals who have suffered similar fates, reminding them that hope and determination can lead to healing, even in the most unimaginable circumstances. Despite the lasting physical and emotional scars, Ruqaya’s spirit remained unbroken, and her message was one of resilience: “Your past does not define your future. I stand as proof that you can overcome anything.”
