Quetta: The reports, like ‘Independence has been declared in Balochistan’, are false, declared Baloch National Movement (BNM), a prominent organisation, which said such misleading information “undermines the dignity” of the cause to liberate the region from the illegal occupation of Pakistan.
BNM spokesman Qazi Dad Muhammad Rehan expressed shock and suprise over such reports appearing in some sections of the Indian media, saying they were copying the “shameless” Pakistani media which “peddles lies” and that “this is not support for the Baloch struggle”.
“In recent days, certain segments of the Indian media have been discussing a so-called ‘Republic of Balochistan’ and referencing an obscure individual who appears to be operating a fake Twitter account, sharing AI-generated images,” he said in a statement.
“This activity has increased in the backdrop of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pakistan-sponsored terrorist attack in Pahalgam (on April 22,)” Rehan said.
He said some individuals are exploiting this atmosphere to draw attention through misleading content and there is a particular account on social media which is one of many that attempt to turn the Baloch cause into a mockery.
“No individual — nor any single organization — holds the authority to unilaterally speak on behalf of the entire Baloch nation. Yet, announcements are being made as if Balochistan has already attained independence. Is it really that simple? Has the Pakistani military withdrawn from Balochistan?
“No. It is a lie to claim that Balochistan is free. The reality is that Balochistan remains under military occupation, and the struggle for freedom continues,” the BNM Information and Cultural Secretary said.
He reminded that the formal declaration of Balochistan’s Independence was made by Khan of Kalat, Ahmad Yar Khan, on August 11, 1947. However, on March 27, 1948, Pakistan forcefully occupied Balochistan.
“Since that day, our people have been resisting and fighting for freedom,” Rehan said.
“We have consistently emphasized that the Baloch national struggle must be represented with seriousness, truth, and dignity,” he said.
“Pakistani media and its so-called journalists merely echo the voice of the military establishment. They shamelessly peddle lies, sometimes even presenting video game footage as evidence of war, distorting reality in the process. This has created a toxic online environment, spreading confusion and anxiety,” the spokesman said.
“Regrettably, some sections of Indian media are beginning to mirror these tactics,” he added.
The Baloch leader pointed out that Pakistan was “built on falsehoods, and its reliance on deception continues”.
“But India is a land of deep historical and cultural roots. It is the birthplace of epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata. It does not befit Indian media to reduce itself to the level of Pakistani propaganda,” he said.
“Through this message, I respectfully urge Indian media outlets to avoid presenting unknown individuals as representatives of Balochistan. Engage with credible, relevant voices instead.
“Spreading false narratives not only leads to ridicule but also undermines the dignity of our cause. This is not support for the Baloch struggle—it is akin to handing a razor to a monkey,” Rehan said. (NVI)
