Quetta, May 30 (NVI) Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) tonight claimed to have taken full control of the strategically important city of Surab in Balochistan.

BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch said the organization’s fighters have taken over key government installations including a bank, the Levies station, and the police station.

Checkpoints and patrols are also being carried out on the main Quetta-Karachi highway and the Surab-Gidar road, he said in a brief statement to NVI.

According to local reports, a large number of armed fighters this evening launched a coordinated attack on various government buildings in the city, including security installations and several military personnel were detained.

A number of government vehicles were set ablaze.

Over the last one year, there have been a number of such operations carried out by Baloch freedom fighters wherein they seize control of key areas or highways for some time to send out a message to the Pakistani State.

The increase in such operations reflects a weakening grip of the Pakistani military in occupied Balochistan. (NVI)
