Patwari Arrested by ACB for Allegedly Taking Rs 10,000 Bribe in Srinagar

Srinagar, Mar 10 (NVI): The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested a patwari in Srinagar for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 for issuing revenue extracts, officials said.

According to an ACB spokesperson, the accused, identified as Saffdar Hussain Mir, patwari of Halqa Batmaloo, had allegedly demanded the bribe from a complainant for issuing revenue extracts in favour of the complainant’s relative.

The complainant approached the ACB and lodged a written complaint, stating that the patwari had asked for Rs 10,000 to process and issue the required documents.

Following the complaint, the ACB conducted a preliminary verification which confirmed the demand for the bribe, after which a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar, the spokesperson said.

A trap team was subsequently constituted and laid a successful trap, during which the accused was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount of Rs 10,000 from the complainant, he added.

The accused official was taken into custody after completing medico-legal formalities, and further investigation into the case is underway, the ACB said.(NVI)
