JKSA Thanks Punjab CM, Officials for Dignified Repatriation of Kashmiri Student’s Mortal Remains

Srinagar, Mar 22 (NVI): The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) on Sunday expressed gratitude to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Chief Secretary K.A.P. Sinha, and the Chief Minister’s Media Advisor Baltej Pannu for facilitating the dignified return of a Kashmiri student’s mortal remains from Punjab to his native place in Kupwara.

In a statement, the Association said that Burhan Bashir, a student of Chandigarh University, was taken to a hospital in Sector 69, Mohali, where he was declared dead by doctors.

Following the incident, the family approached JKSA for assistance in repatriating the mortal remains. The Association’s National Convenor, Nasir Khuehami, subsequently took up the matter with senior officials, including Baltej Pannu and K.A.P. Sinha, seeking urgent intervention.

Acting promptly despite late hours, the Punjab Chief Minister’s Office directed the Deputy Commissioner, Mohali, and other officials to ensure all necessary arrangements for the smooth and dignified transportation of the body, the statement said.

JKSA also appreciated the efforts of the local administration, including the SDM and police officials of Kharar, for their timely support and coordination with the bereaved family.

Despite ongoing Eid engagements, the post-mortem was conducted during the night without delay, ensuring that the process was expedited, it added.

The Association further lauded JKSA’s Chandigarh Unit President Khan Faiq for assisting the family, completing formalities, and remaining present at the hospital and SDM office till late night to facilitate the process.

The mortal remains were later transported to Kashmir by ambulance, and the last rites were performed at the deceased’s native village in Handwara in the presence of family members, relatives, and locals.

JKSA extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, stating that it stands in complete solidarity with them during this difficult time.(NVI)
