Massive IED Recovered in South Kashmir, Security Forces Prevent Tragedy

Srinagar, Apr 08 (NVI) : security forces averted a major tragedy in South Kashmir Shopian district after detecting and defusing a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) weighing over 14 kg.

The explosive device, planted along the Zainapora–Chattergam road in orchard areas, was discovered early Wednesday during a routine sanitisation patrol by alert troops of 44 Rashtriya Rifles. Packed with plastic explosives, a primer, electric detonator, remote trigger, and batteries, the IED was reportedly intended to target security force convoys.

Acting swiftly, the troops cordoned off the area and summoned bomb disposal experts, who successfully neutralised the device without any damage or casualties.

The incident highlights ongoing threats in the Valley, particularly ahead of the peak summer tourism season. In response, joint operations involving the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF have been intensified to track down those behind the plot.

Search operations are currently underway in nearby orchards and villages, as security forces remain on high alert following a series of similar IED threats reported in recent weeks.(NVI)
