New Delhi, May 2 (NVI): The government on Saturday conducted a nationwide test of its Cell Broadcast-based emergency alert system, sending an “extremely severe” warning message to mobile phones across the country, officials said.
The alert, received by citizens in multiple states, was part of a planned exercise to assess the effectiveness and reach of the public safety communication system.
Authorities clarified that the message was only a test and did not indicate any real emergency. Citizens were advised not to panic or take any action.
The Cell Broadcast system is designed to deliver critical alerts related to disasters, severe weather, and other emergencies directly to mobile devices in a targeted area.
Officials said the test was aimed at strengthening disaster preparedness and ensuring timely dissemination of warnings during actual emergencies.(NVI)
