Srinagar, Jun 7 (NVI): The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch, Jammu and Kashmir, has filed a chargesheet against two residents of Bandipora district for allegedly using forged documents and manipulated dates of birth to secure illegal extensions in service and obtain undue financial benefits, officials said on Sunday.

The chargesheet was filed before the Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Sumbal, in connection with FIR No. 05/2026 registered under Sections 420, 468 and 471 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC), an EOW spokesperson said.

The accused have been identified as Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, son of Mohammad Jawad Bhat, and Assadullah Bhat, son of Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bhat, both residents of Rakhi Shilwat in the Sumbal area of Bandipora district.

According to the investigation, the accused allegedly concealed their educational qualifications and falsely projected themselves as illiterate to obtain altered dates of birth through fraudulent certificates.

The spokesperson said the forged documents resulted in incorrect service records, enabling the accused to continue in service beyond their legitimate tenure and derive undue monetary benefits.

“The illegal acts caused financial loss to the State exchequer,” the spokesperson said, adding that the chargesheet has been submitted before the competent court for judicial proceedings.

The EOW also urged members of the public to remain vigilant against economic offences and report such cases to the Senior Superintendent of Police, EOW Kashmir, or through the official complaint channels.(NVI)
