Srinagar, June 7 (NVI): Hot and dry weather conditions are likely to continue across Jammu and Kashmir till June 10, while rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are expected at several places from June 11 onwards, the Meteorological Department said on Sunday.
Director of the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, said the weather is expected to remain generally hot and dry from June 7 to June 10, although brief afternoon showers at isolated places cannot be ruled out.
He said that from June 11 to June 14, the weather is likely to remain partly to generally cloudy, with light rain, brief intense showers, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds expected at scattered to many places across the Union Territory.
According to the MeT Department, thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms and gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, may occur at isolated to scattered places during the period.
The department also warned that brief spells of intense rainfall in parts of the Kashmir and Jammu divisions could trigger flash floods, mudslides and localized flooding in vulnerable areas between June 11 and June 14.
Residents, farmers and travellers have been advised to remain vigilant and follow official weather advisories and updates during the forecast period, the department said.(NVI)
