Karachi, June 28: Several Pakistani soldiers have been left dead and injured after a major attack by a group of heavily-armed men at the Headquarters of paramilitary force Pakistan Rangers in Karachi city of Sindh province in Pakistan.
The attack began late last night with a big explosion at the gate of the high-security installation and continued till this morning.
The attackers first rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the Pakistan Rangers’ provincial headquarters located in Gulistan-i-Jauhar area of Karachi.
After the explosion, several gunmen barged into the premises, firing indiscriminately.
The stunned soldiers inside the premises took shelter wherever they could as the attackers went on the rampage.
Sounds of firing and occasional blasts were heared for a long time.
Authorities said 4 personnel of the Rangers were killed.
However, independent sources said the casualty figiure is much higher than being given by the authorities.
After this, another blast and intense firing was reported from near Meteorological Chowrangi on University Road.
Pakistan government said its forces shot dead six assailants after thwarting an attempted attack on a Sindh Rangers facility in Karachi.
Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA), a brutal extremist splinter group of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), has claimed responsibility for the attack on Sindh Rangers headquarters.
The attacks were carried out by a suicide squad called Khulafa-e-Rashideen Ishtishhadi Brigade. (NVI)
