Ramban, July 22 (NVI): Two persons were killed and three others injured after a boulder rolled down a hillside and struck a tempo on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir today, officials said.
The accident occurred near Gangroo when the tempo, travelling from Srinagar to Doda, came under a sudden rockfall, resulting in extensive damage to the vehicle, they said.
Two passengers died on the spot, while three others sustained injuries. The victims are residents of Kastigarh area of Doda district, officials said.
Police, rescue personnel and local authorities rushed to the scene and shifted the injured to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Ramsoo for treatment. The bodies of the deceased were also taken to the hospital for medico-legal formalities.
The damaged vehicle was removed from the highway, and efforts were launched to clear debris and restore traffic movement, officials said.
Police have taken cognisance of the incident.
The identities of the deceased and injured were yet to be officially disclosed. Further details are awaited.(NVI)
