Srinagar, Jul 22 (NVI): Anantnag Police on Wednesday cautioned the public against sharing unauthorised photographs, videos and unverified information related to the recent terror incident at Lal Chowk in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, warning that violators will face legal action.
In an advisory, police said several social media users and platforms were circulating fake photographs, edited videos and unverified content linked to the incident, which could hamper the investigation, spread misinformation and create public panic.
The police directed social media users and platforms to immediately remove any unauthorised or misleading content related to the incident, stating that strict action would be taken under relevant legal provisions against those who continue to circulate such material.
Appealing for responsible use of social media, the police urged people not to upload or forward unverified information and advised them to rely only on official updates issued by the police and other authorised government agencies.
The advisory said preventing the spread of misinformation and maintaining public order is a collective responsibility, and sought public cooperation in ensuring that only verified information is shared.(NVI)
