Srinagar, Jul 27 (NVI): The Meteorological Department (MeT) on Monday forecast a fresh spell of rain and thundershowers across Jammu and Kashmir from July 28 to 31, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall, flash floods, landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas.
An official of the Meteorological Centre, Srinagar, said intermittent rain and thundershowers are likely at many places on Monday, mainly during the late afternoon and evening, with improvement in weather thereafter.
From July 28 to 31, Kashmir division is expected to witness light to moderate rain and thundershowers at most places, with brief spells of intense showers at a few locations, particularly during the early morning and late afternoon or evening hours, the official said.
In Jammu division, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at most places, while a few districts may receive heavy to torrential rainfall. Udhampur and adjoining areas are expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall, with the peak activity likely on July 30 and 31, the official added.
The MeT said rain and thundershower activity is likely to continue on August 1 and 2 at many places, while another spell of heavy rain, intense showers and torrential rainfall is possible over a few districts of Jammu division on August 3 and 4.
The department warned that torrential rain and brief intense showers during July 28-31 could trigger flash floods, landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas, particularly in the Jammu region.
The MeT has advised the public, tourists, travellers and transporters to follow weather advisories issued by the administration and avoid vulnerable areas during the forecast period.(NVI)
