Jammu, Jul 27 (NVI): A fresh landslide in Udhampur district on Monday disrupted traffic on the strategic Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, leaving around 1,700 trucks and several passenger vehicles stranded, officials said.
The landslide struck the Dewal area, forcing authorities to regulate traffic through a single carriageway while restoration work on the damaged road stretch was underway, they said.
Officials said passenger vehicles were being given priority to clear the stranded traffic.
They said no fresh traffic was being allowed from Jammu towards Srinagar, Doda, Ramban and Patnitop, or from the Kashmir side towards Jammu, until the restoration work was completed and the highway was declared safe for vehicular movement.
Commuters have been advised to avoid travelling on the highway till further orders due to the risk of fresh landslides and shooting stones along vulnerable stretches, the officials added.(NVI)
