Rain Likely to Continue in J&K, Heavy Showers May Trigger Flash Floods

Srinagar, Aug 19 (NVI): Jammu and Kashmir witnessed significant rainfall in several areas during the past 24 hours, with Jammu recording the highest rainfall of 88.7 mm, the Meteorological Centre Srinagar said on Wednesday.

Samba recorded 85 mm of rainfall, followed by Kathua with 76.6 mm, Katra 48 mm and Udhampur 32.2 mm.

According to the weather department, J&K is likely to experience generally hot and humid weather from August 19 to 22, with one or two spells of light to moderate rain or thundershowers at scattered to many places.

The department said brief intense heavy showers are likely at a few districts, particularly during the early morning and afternoon hours.

From August 23 to 27, generally hot and humid conditions are expected, with brief spells of rain or thundershowers at scattered places, mainly during the early morning and afternoon hours.

The Meteorological Centre has advised people to remain cautious as brief intense heavy showers over localised areas may trigger flash floods, mudslides and landslides.

Farmers, meanwhile, have been advised to continue harvesting and other agricultural operations.
