Nepal Floods: 177 dead, 178 Indians and hundreds of others missing

New Delhi, Aug 27 (NVI) In its latest update, Nepal police today confirmed the death of 177 people due to yesterday’s flash floods and landslide even as several hundreds, including 178 Indian tourists, remain missing.
Nepal police said 177 bodies have been recovered from the affected areas.
It adds that 33 people are receiving treatment and 3,318 police officers have been deployed so far to support rescue operations.
The Nepal Tourism Board said 644 tourists are still out of contact. They include 178 Indian tourists, according to its spokesperson Sunil Sharma.
At least 127 Nepali tourists, 53 Ukrainians, 51 Malaysians, 65 Americans, 35 Australians, and 33 UK nationals are also out of reach.
Communication has been disrupted in the affected areas, which may also be a reason why many people may be unreachable.
The affected areas included the route to Kailash Mansarovar, located in Tibet, and several of the pilgrims are also among those not reachable.
Over two dozen tourists have been rescued and brought back from the Rasuwa.
Earlier, the Prime Minister’s Office of Nepal said the Nepali Army had rescued 21 Indian nationals who were being brought back to Kathmandu. (NVI)
