New Delhi, Sep 4 (NVI) Officials of the four-nation QUAD grouping met here and reviewed ongoing initiatives and discussed ways to strengthen practical cooperation across the Indo-Pacific.
The grouping comprises India, the USA, Australia and Japan.
The meeting, hosted by India, was attended by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Elly Lawson, Deputy Secretary, Strategic Planning and Coordination Group at Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade; Hiroyuki Namazu, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan; and Sergio Gor, US Special Envoy to South and Central Asia and Ambassador to India.
The meeting followed the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in New Delhi on 26 May 2026 and was convened to advance its outcomes and prepare for the next meeting of the Quad foreign ministers.
The Sherpas reviewed progress on ongoing Quad initiatives and explored measures to further strengthen practical cooperation, reaffirming their shared commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific.
Discussions covered several key areas, including maritime and transnational security, economic prosperity and security, critical and emerging technologies, and humanitarian assistance and emergency response.
The officials also exchanged views on developments across the Indo-Pacific, as well as broader regional and global issues.
The Quad Sherpas reaffirmed the importance of pursuing concrete, action-oriented initiatives and agreed to continue consultations ahead of the next Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. (NVI)
