Srinagar, Sep 14 (NVI) The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir has filed a chargesheet against a man accused of cheating people by promising government jobs and providing fake appointment orders, officials said on Monday.
The chargesheet was filed before the Court of Forest Magistrate, Srinagar, in connection with FIR No. 12/2026 registered under Sections 420, 468 and 471 of the IPC against Abdul Majeed Mir, a resident of Lishtiyal area of Kalaroos in Kupwara district, they said.
The case was registered following a complaint alleging that Mir had taken lakhs of rupees from the complainant on the promise of securing a government job for his son.
The accused allegedly provided an appointment order purportedly issued by the Airports Authority of India, which was subsequently found to be fake and forged, officials said.
During the investigation, the allegations were substantiated and the chargesheet was filed before the competent court for judicial determination, they said.
The accused, against whom 15 criminal cases have been registered across the Kashmir Valley, was arrested on July 18 and is currently lodged in Central Jail, Srinagar, officials said.
He allegedly impersonated influential persons and bureaucrats to deceive and cheat people, they added.
The EOW has advised the public to remain vigilant against economic fraudsters and report cases of financial fraud to the agency.—(NVI)
