New Delhi, Sep 16 (NVI) :The Ministry of Defence has approved lifetime train travel facilities for recipients of the Sena Medal, Nau Sena Medal and Vayu Sena Medal (Gallantry), along with their eligible spouses and parents of unmarried posthumous awardees, officials said.
The facility will be available across Indian Railways in First Class, Second AC and AC Chair Car.
Under the new provision, spouses of awardees will be eligible for the facility, with the benefit for widows and widowers continuing until remarriage. Parents of unmarried personnel who were awarded the gallantry medals posthumously will also be covered.
The ministry has introduced a paperless digital process for implementing the government sanction. Eligible beneficiaries can register online through the Indian Railway Concession Card Portal (IRCCP).
After authentication, e-passes will be generated digitally, while ticket booking through the IRCTC web portal will commence from November 1, 2026.
The initiative is aimed at facilitating travel for gallantry awardees and their families and recognising their service and sacrifice, officials said.—(NVI)
