Srinagar, Sep 18 (NVI) : The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir has arrested a man in connection with an alleged Rs 93 lakh land and property fraud case, officials said on Friday.
The accused, identified as Ghulam Mohi-Ud-Din Dar, a resident of Jawalapora in Budgam district, was arrested in compliance with an order and warrant issued by a court in Srinagar, they said.
According to the Crime Branch, Dar had been evading arrest for the past year and is involved in multiple criminal cases registered with the EOW Kashmir and SCW Kashmir.
The case relates to a complaint alleging that the accused, in connivance with another person, duped a victim of Rs 93 lakh by promising to sell five kanals of migrant land in Drusu Pulwama and 300 standing trees in Bijbehara, officials said.
The accused allegedly used forged agreements to carry out the transactions, they said.
Investigators also found that a bank account allegedly used to receive the fraudulently obtained money was opened on the day of the transfer, according to the Crime Branch.
The accused and his alleged associate reportedly posed as owners or attorney holders of properties and made false promises to sell migrant property to unsuspecting people, officials said.
The co-accused, identified as Soom Nath Koul, is absconding and a hue and cry notice has been issued against him, they said.
Further investigation into the alleged fraud and the network involved is underway, officials added.—(NVI)
