Jammu, Sep 18 (NVI) : A man was allegedly stabbed to death during a birthday celebration in the Lower Roop Nagar area here following a dispute over smearing cake on the birthday boy’s face, police said on Friday.
The deceased, identified as Pawan Nair alias Sameer, was brought to Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu in an injured condition by his friends, but doctors declared him dead on arrival, police said.
According to police, the incident occurred on Thursday when Neeraj alias Anshu was celebrating his birthday near Lower Roop Nagar. During the cake-cutting ceremony, Nair allegedly applied cake on Neeraj’s face, following which an argument broke out between the two.
When their friends tried to intervene and pacify them, Neeraj allegedly took out a khokhri he was carrying and attacked Nair on the neck, causing serious injuries, police said.
Nair was immediately shifted to GMC Jammu, where he was declared dead.
Police said a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered at Janipur police station and an investigation has been launched.
Both Neeraj and his brother Rishu have been arrested in connection with the case and are in police custody, police said, adding that efforts are underway to recover the alleged weapon of offence.
The body has been shifted to the mortuary for post-mortem examination, police said.—(NVI)
