Ladakh, Sep 23 (NVI): Ladakh Lieutenant Governor on Wednesday approved the withdrawal of criminal cases against 20 individuals booked in connection with the violence that erupted in Leh on September 24 last year.
In a post on X, the LG said the decision was taken in the larger interest of “peace, public tranquility and social harmony” in Ladakh.
The Ladakh Police, following a comprehensive review, had recommended closure of the cases against the 20 individuals in an FIR registered at Leh police station, under Section 360 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), the LG said.
He said the decision would allow the individuals to move forward with their lives and careers, while helping foster a “more peaceful, united and harmonious society” in Ladakh.
The LG also thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his guidance and “sympathetic approach” towards the victims and their families.—(NVI)
