Srinagar, Sep 29 (NVI) : BJP legislators on Tuesday staged a walkout from the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly in protest against the Speaker allowing discussion on the resolution seeking restoration of statehood to the Union Territory.
The BJP members objected to references to the 2000 autonomy resolution and the 2024 resolution on restoration of special status included in the statehood resolution.
The walkout followed Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma raising the issue in the House and seeking the removal of Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather.
The statehood resolution, moved by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, was passed by the Assembly on Monday amid protests and objections from BJP legislators.—(NVI)
